Q: what should i do with my 2000 audi s4?
i just bought a 2000 audi s4 with 75k on it for $10,000 what mods should i do and are there any good sites for mods online?
A: a 75k upgrade may get a little dicey…High mileage stage I, II, or III S4s tend to see problems, but provided the car was maintained well and serviced properly, you should be OK.
Also, about the turbos…many people simply assume and claim that the turbos “blow” at high mileage. That is a blanket statement. My S4 currently has 140,000 miles on it, when I had a few minor maintenance repairs that required the front end be taken off, I asked Champion Audi to take a look at the turbos and tell me how they are doing. (I go to school 13hrs away from home and I drive). They said the turbos are “in excellent condition.” In fact, I have not seen a turbo, or turbo related problem EVER. Same thing in my old Stage III.
What mods? It all depends on how much money your willing to spend. The easiest/cheapest way to see hp gains would be to upgrade the ECU (chip). GIAC makes the best for Audi’s. This would put you at Stage I, with hp gains of about 40-55 and around $300+ in the hole.
The next step would be to install a full exhaust system (turbo-back), but this is where it gets a little pricey. Good systems run about $1,000 minimum. This would put you at Stage II. A lot of S4 owners swear by the Milltek systems, but its a preference choice.
Finally there is the KO4 turbo kit. Stage III, about $2,500 for the parts (plumbing, intercoolers, spark plugs, etc. etc.) If you make it to stage III, hp gains will have nearly doubled stock. GIAC also sells the KO4 turbo kit with all the plumbing.

NOTE for other answerer’s: the B5 S4 (2000-2002) is a 2.7L twin turbo!
Q: Help! Looking at a 2001 Audi S4?
Hi, just looking for an Audi expert to give some advice. I’m going to look at a 2001 Audi S4 2.7L Bi-Turbo tomorrow. I’m a bit apprehensive however.
It has a 6 speed manual tranny, which is a main selling feature for me. However, the car has 117K with no clutch replacement. How long are these made to last? I know it depends how you drive. What should I look for tomorrow with the clutch?
Turbos, turbos, turbos. All that spells for me is trouble, especially since there are 2 of them. I have read that these turbos are only made to last for about 60K miles, and once again they haven’t been replaced. I have also read that this is a 6 thousand dollar job to replace them. Is there any way I can tell what condition the turbos are in? I am mechanically inclined but don’t plan on taking the car apart.
The car has no modifications, so I don’t think it has been driven hard or abused. All I can find online about these is positive reviews, so I would like some input from real world people. Anything I should look for in particular?
Lastly, the selling price is $8,800 which is just about KBB value. I plan on haggling a bit. So all in all, am I in for a nightmare buying a higher mileage Audi, or should it be alright? I only plan on driving the car for maybe a few years.
Thanks again in advance for any help anyone may have to offer.
A: Fun car to drive, but your reservations are founded. They are frightfully unreliable, as most turbos are. Also, Engine major, engine minor, engine cooling, and drive system all get black dots (poorest rating) by consumer reports for reliability in the ’01s. Transmission, electrical system, suspension, exhaust, and the audio system all get 1/2 black dots, which are still below average. They are one of CRs “used cars to avoid”. I’d take their advice.
Q: is there a free catalog for euro cars?
i have an 2002 audi s4 and it is so hard to find any aftermarket parts i’ve tryed ebay but they sell some bootleg stuff….just a online catalog would be great too thanks…
A: Go to www.audi.com
register as user, will ask few information about you and your vehicle.
It will open a section on the site, where you are able to download the complete users manual, such as every single detail on car-mapping.
Q: Which is the best used car I can get for under 15k in the US, location not an issue?
That’s my budget–15,000, give or take a couple. Also, I have a few restrictions like lower mileage, not older than say 2003, must be a coupe, and so on. I’ve looked online and compiled a list from people’s reviews, mags and even top gear. This is a rather large set, and I’m looking to eventually trim it down to maybe 4 or 5 cars and pick from those.
What I want from my car:
This is important to know, if you want to make a good suggestion. I’m a 24 year old, fresh out of college into a well paying job on the West coast. I am young, and I have everything to prove. I would rather NOT be just another desi, and go for the obvious Toyota. I can always buy a family car later, this is my FIRST CAR!
I don’t mind public transport, been using it for years. But when I want to drive from A to B, I want to do it in style. It’s gotta have substance too, a good feel, that vibe you know, when the car chooses you
And finally, I know I’ve probably overshot my budget with this list. I encourage you to put me in my place, and maybe even go so far as to make your own suggestion. Thanks for your input, and 10 points to the most thought-out reply with some real-world advice. Peace.
Chevy Camaro, Cobalt
Ford Mustang, Mustang GT
Mazda RX-8
Mitsubishi Eclipse, Evo,
Nissan 350Z/370Z
Audi A3, A4, S4
Infiniti G35/37
Hyundai Genesis
Dodge Charger, Challenger
PS: Is it true that if I’m gonna pay anything over 15 grand, I might as well get a new car?
A: haha wow these people.
crx dude shut up. go outside
audi’s = lots of problems my friends owned them 2 brothers a8 and a4 i think but they both had problems..
the 3 series sounds nice. trust me i considered buying one, but if somethings breaks down your gonna be in a shit hole because their a bitch to find replacement parts for under 2 bills for any part.
and the other person, yeah you could buy a new car for under 15k but it would probably be a focus or something. who would really want that. no offense to focus owners.
personally i’ve always disliked mustangs because they always have dumb/bad drivers. so many of my buds have been hit by someone driving a mustang. and i got a door ding from one(:x!!!)
the camaro and cobalt both sound nice honestly. good american cars. cobalt good gas. camaro american muscle my dad owns 3. one done(built ground up from frame only) one just frame and one with body but needs work
the rx-8s also in my opinion are good cars but i have never owned one
the evo’s are nice but never been my style so thats for you to decide.
the charger if you can find one for that price id say buy it. also badass cars. challengers..i know 3 ppl that own them and their all retards. plus my brother got hit by someone driving one. but i guess their comfortable inside.
now mitsubishi eclipse ive owned one. and i hit a tree. head on going about 60mph. the airbag saved my life i know it. so reliable cars. yeah they have their small problems but what car doesnt. if you dont mind messing with small things about a day a week then you’ll love it. which is how it was for me alot of ppl complain bc all the constant upkeeps but really its very minor stuff.
now onto the bad boys!! 350z g35 and 370z. well 350z is going to be my next car
after i get out of this bed from the accident(broke femur only been a month and im almost walking look it up. thats amazing time. and its bc the eclipsegt i swear) 350z’s tho. great horsepower mean lookin ride babe magnet and alot of potential. which is why i love it :p 370 if i could afford and if the lights were like the 350 i would buy it. but their not still mean looking ride though. g35. seems more like the eclipse and honestly bc of cost and gas mileage i would buy a eclipse over a g35. it would save money in the long run bc eclipses get great gas mileage yes even the gt. tell me 28mpg isnt good for a 3.0 215hp car. which is quick as shit btw
the genisis. idk i saw one at the chicago car show i think but i dont know anything about them really. so your on your own there do some research, so i dont have to tell you everything ha.
my 4 or 5 would be 350z, camaro, cobalt, charger, and eclipse if i put myself in your shoes wanting to shorten the list.
crx dude is also retarded bc he cant read. your out of college so enjoy life have some fun id say buy a fast car but keep out of trouble. or try to
you say you want advice. i say buy import or buy muscle. anything in-between is for spectators
