Q: New E92 BMW M3 V8 or New Audi RS4?
Yes, the debate goes on. Which car would you rather have? Ultimately the Audi is an easier car to live with, but there’s something mysterious about the M3 isn’t there?

I’ll take the M3 thank you…and in Laguna Seca Blue thank you

A: This question may actually be easier than one thinks. Obviously, one would choose the RS4 for practicality at first glance. This may not actually be the case. The boot of the M3 is actually too close to the RS4 to make any significant difference. Therefore, technically the ability for the cars to transport goods is essentially the same. The RS4 has four doors, which adds to the practicality of the Audi. I find this personally to be useless because in a matter of months, there will be a BMW E90 M3 Sedan.

In term of performance, the BMW exceeds that of the Audi. First, the BMW has RWD with the same amount of power and yet accelerates naught-to-sixty quite faster than the Audi, almost half a second. Obviously, the BMW can put power to pavement better than the Audi, despite the Audi’s All Wheel Drive Quattro.

As for the statement that the Audi can attain a higher top-speed, that’s definitely false. We can deduce this by looking at the specs. First, the BMW has a V8, just like the Audi, producing 420 bhp, just like the Audi. The difference is that the BMW has 420 bhp at 8,400 RPM, far more than the Audi. So the BMW has more torque at higher RPMs.

In addition, the Audi does not have adaptive All-Wheel Drive, which means it distributes torque and power among the front wheels and the back wheels, statically, so the BMW always has power pushing the car versus having power spread across the driveline of both rear and front wheels.

The BMW is also a Coupe versus the Sedan Audi. To think that the Audi is lighter than the BMW is simply ridiculous. First, there are two less doors; doors are really, really heavy. Second, the BMW’s V8 is the lightest currently in production, it is actually 33 lbs. lighter than the Inline-6 it replaced. Third, the BMW M3 has a carbon-fiber roof, which not only lowers its center of gravity by reduces its overall weight. Fourth, All-Wheel drive systems are incredibly heavy because they are incredibly complicated, so four drive systems versus two, you do that math. Thus, there is no reason to conclude that the BMW is heavier than the Audi.

There is no doubt that both cars are phenomenal, I recently own an S4 and it was fantastic, but it simply did not handle as well as my E46 M3 Competition Package. RWD cars just handle better, there is no disputing it. But AWD does have a quicker exit from turns and corners.

Sure, the Audi might be easier to live with because it’s a Sedan, but I actually think you might be surprised at how equal they are in terms of daily-drivability. That gap will be eliminated once BMW arrives with a Saloon. No matter what kind of car is your personal favorite, there is no doubt, whatsoever that the BMW pioneered the Sports Sedan, they wrote the book on how it should be done, and Audi just picked up a copy.

The BMW is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I started driving on an 1993 E36 325i, not a ton of power but, man, if you pushed the envelope too far in it, it would kill you and laugh maniacally. BMWs have this reputation of being basically Corollas (in terms of popularity, demographic of the owners, etc, you know what I’m talking about.) But few realize that BMWs are NOT all luxury, they can be incredibly dangerous and fun to drive with an experienced driver. The E92 M3 may be the greatest M3 ever, but I guarantee you that some will buy and not realize what it really is. These cars are meant to be driven HARD, on tracks sometimes and at high, high speeds. When god finished making Ferrari and realized that he went a little overboard, he made BMW, when he finished with that, then he rested, because both cars took his breath away. (I’m not being blasphemous, but these cars really are a pinnacle of engineering and design.) The BMW is a lifestyle, the Audi may be just a little bit of a compromise.

As for Laguna Seca Blue, I have not heard that is an available color option…we’ll have to wait and see, I hoping for you.

The 414 bhp, 295 lb/ft V8 2008 E92 M3 Competition Package would be my choice every single time. Not because I’m partial, but because I think that’s the closest I’ll come to Automotive Perfection.

EDIT:

First, the more power you have to distribute, the more you lose in the process, this is just a law of Physics. Granted, that loss may be small, but hands-down, RWD is the most efficient drive system out there. It sends 100% of available power to the drive wheels. The Audi does have an amazing system though, but BMW’s X-Drive is, in reality far more logical, balancing power from 5% to 95% static to X% dynamic. It is expected that the E92 M3 may have X-Drive installed in 2009. This is just speculation.

As for weight, the BMW is 3460 lbs (speculated) and the Audi is 3564 lbs. And, furthermore, nobody has actualy weighed the E92 M3 because nobody owns one yet. Car and Driver (The magazine that gets the specs, ALL the time) did not get to weigh the car, so figures are yet unknown.

Q: when is the new audi rs4 out?

A: Audi says in 2011

Q: How much does a new clutch for an Audi RS4 (B7) cost?

A: coming from someone whos name is dodge man i wouldnt know who to belive. i know lots about audis trust me. and i can tell you that a clutch for my A4 cost about 800 dollars. for the Rs4 plus labor itll cost over 2000 dollars. good luck

Q: Why do most people compare the New BMW M3 to the Audi RS4 when the Audi is a 4 dr Saloon?
Shouldn’t they be comparing it to comething like a Mercedes CLK63 AMG Coupe

A: they are in the same price class they are the same size and are really direct competitors. I believe BMW will be releasing a 4 door M3 as well and Audi may be coming out with an RS5 coupe .

Q: Which is faster new bmw m3, or audi rs4?
i saw a video where both cars it says is 0-60 in 4.8 but the m3 kills the rs4 and i thought the older ‘06 m3 is 4.8 shouldn’t new v8 m3 be faster, well here is the video i saw

http://carversation.com/2007/12/18/audi-rs4-vs-bmw-m3-e92/

A: I wouldn’t say the M3 killed the Audi, but it did seem to be ahead of it. One is all wheel drive and the other rear only, so they will have different driving characteristics. In one situation the BMW might be faster (straight-line) and in another the Audi (the turns). It seemed to me the Audi was crowding the BMW on just about every turn. Its hard to tell from that video because its more of an exhibition than a real race. Nice cars though.

Q: The new generation Audi A4 comes to the U.S. this fall I believe. So is there going to be a new RS4 and S4?
and if so…when will it come to the U.S.?

A: it is a possibility, but if it is going to happen, they will come about a year or a half year after the a4, i think

Q: Is there gonna be a scale model of the Audi RS4?
Hi there guys. My Brother-in-law and my sister have bought themselves a dashing new Audi A4. They both love it, and so do I. Only problem is, my borhter-in-law loves the RS4 version, and seeing as it starts at 50K odd, it’s a wee bit out of their price range. Does anybody know if anybody (minichamps, AutoArt, Ixo) is gonna be doing a scale model replica of the RS4? I’d really love to get him one as a gift. “I’d even settle for the 38K S4″ as he said. So is there gonna be one of those either???

Any info would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Darren

A: Try Model Zone, if they do not have one I think they may be able to order one for you.

Q: How much do you think my friend spent on his Audi RS4?
Its a 2007 certified pre-owned, but it practically looks brand new and it has about 40k miles on it. Its pretty much the fastest most exhilarating car I’ve ever been in…i thought I’d jizz my pants when he put pedal to the metal and the G-forces knocked my head against the seat! Man, you shoulda heard the sound of that 4.2L V8 engine! AWESOME!! 420 horses!

A: like anywhere from 40k to 60k. And yea rs4 is amazing, beats the m3 anyday.

Id guess he payed about 50k or 55k

Q: what car would you prefer 2008 Audi RS4 or 2008 BMW M3?
or maybe the new S5?

A: 2008 BMW M3 FOR SUREEEE

Q: What does 170mph feel like in a car?
My friend just got his new Audi RS4 up to 170mph on an open stretch of highway…and the car still had a bit left in it, but he ran out of road. What does it feel like going that fast in a car? Hopefully he’ll take me for a spin this summer…

A: It feels 30MPH shy of what my 1976 Super Beetle will do.

Your friend is full of SH(himself)IT too.

He was probably doing 170 Km/hr which is about 105 MPH. An AUDI RS4 does not come with tires that can do 170MPH.

Tell Brainiac to switch his speedo back to MPH and quit BS’ing people.

There are actually people out here that know that all Audis are electronically governed by the factory to not exceed 155 MPH.

Q: BMW 335 convertible or Audi S4 convertible (or new kitchen…)?
I’ve decided to buy myself a nice convertible and have narrowed it down to the two above (annoyingly, i can’t quite afford the new M3 or an RS4). which would you have, i’m verging towards the audi. However, the woman of the house wants a new kitchen so advice on convincing her otherwise is also appreciated.

A: the Audi is a great car – however you may have trouble fitting a double oven and a dishwasher lol

Q: How much should this Audi S4 cost?
Its a 2000 Audi S4 with the 2.7L biturbo engine, in Nogaro Blue paint with 144k miles. Always garaged, All scheduled maintenance (with records), Brand new rs4 wheels with new Toyo tires, Fully loaded (sans navigation system), No accidents, Non-smoker, Runs & drives great. Upgrades include two new k03 turbos, RS4 clutch, and flywheel, h&r springs, three new 02 sensors, apr stage 2 ecu software upgrade, with apr catback exaust, RS4 front bumper, bailey diverter valves, there is a $1200 police radar jammer/warning system that is built in to the front bumper. The rear brakes have recently been replaced, front swaybars, waterpump, rear pads/rotors, intake manifold gaskets, cooling temperature sensor, timing belt done last august, control arms, new power steering rack, new transmission slave cylinder, new symphony2 radio/cd/cassette player are all new, also connects to cd changer, and brand new Audi S4 Floor Mats.

to me it seems like most things that would go bad after 144k miles has been replaced. I mean, i could buy it and the camshaft could snap or something but hey, thats life haha. is there anything i should inquire about? I’m going to take it to a garage before i buy it to check out the cylinder pressures, but other than that i dont know what to check for. any help on what price it should be (its listed at 8,500) and what i should check before i purchase it?

A: That is an excelent deal looking at the things thw previous owner has done to it alll for 8500 thats a bargain. But the 144k miles do look a little shaky but all audis are extremly rilable

Q: rs4 or new m3??
m3’s comin next year but will it be better that audi’s rs4

A: That is a tough one…. But I think I would go for the M3.
